Some UCSD libraries have set up mechanisms to receive and answer brief reference questions by electronic mail. Generally these services are limited to UCSD staff, faculty and regularly enrolled students. (If you are not affiliated with UCSD, try the fee-based Plus Information Service.) Questions by e-mail should normally be relatively brief and simple -- a fact, statistic, biographical note, verification of an incomplete citation, advice on a starting strategy for research, etc. More complex and lengthy questions normally cannot be answered in this way, and will be referred to a subject specialist. Be sure to include your full name and e-mail address for replies.

	Biomedical Library Requestors to this e-mail account will receive a response within two business days. UC requestors receive first priority.
	CLICS: Center for Library & Instructional Computing Services E-mail reference not available. For assistance call Library Information, 534-3336.
	Film & Video Library Checked daily Monday-Friday; replies within one working day. Reference in all areas of film, video, & amp;media studies and research.
	International Relations/Pacific Studies Library Checked daily Monday-Friday.
	Mandeville Library of Special Collections E-mail reference not available. For assistance call Library Information, 534-3336.

	Medical Center Library Medical Center Library staff retrieve messages at least once a day. Response time is usually within two business days. UC requestors receive first priority.
	Music Library Checked daily Monday-Friday; inquiries usually answered within one week.
	Science & Engineering Library For brief engineering, mathematics, physics, and chemistry questions which don't require an immediate answer. Response time is generally 24 hours during weekdays.
	Scripps Institution of Oceanography Library Checked daily Monday-Friday. For assistance call 534-4817, Monday-Friday, 9-5.
	Social Sciences & Humanities Library Questions checked daily Monday-Friday; reply within two working days. For brief social science, humanities, government documents or maps questions which don't require an immediate answer.
